Time and Space

What snags your attention the most: time or space? Which is more valuable?

What comes to mind when you think about “space”? For many of us, or at least for me, I often think of outer space, the cosmos. But I also think about areas around me: my home, my yard, my community.

I can acquire more space if I choose to do so. I can also decease the amount of space in my life, e.g., sell my house.

I sometimes talk about “holding space” for others which for me means I intentionally allow the space around me to be calm, quiet, safe, kind.

Time is a very different story. Each day, I have exactly the same amount of time as everyone else. No matter how much money I have, I cannot acquire more time. Time moves on regardless of what I do or don’t do. I can neither recapture time past nor get an advance on the future. I can only use this particular moment.

So when I hold space for someone, maybe I am really investing time in their well-being, in loving them, which is an activity of time, not space.

So which is more valuable: time or space? Where do I put my attention?

Where should I put my attention in order to honor God?

One response to “Time and Space

  1. Space.
    Time is man made.
Holding space, whether for yourself or someone else, is in the moment. There is no time. Only space. Maybe space time. That is where we can do the most good.
    In the Moment. Space.
