What are you DOING?

Just so you know, this is one of my “rant” posts. While the questions posed are at some level rhetorical, I think it is actually imperative to share our answers.

Repeatedly, I see friends and strangers on social media and media decrying something that is occurring today. Besides the expressed outrage, there is often the vow to “do better”, “be better”, “fight racism/sexism/**ism”, “not tolerate a perceived/real wrong”.

So besides reposting articles supporting your particular point of view, besides “liking” clever memes, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Because you see, your opinion really influences no one. You have to back it up with action. James tells us faith without works is dead (James 2:14). Your opinion or your avowal to do something doesn’t really help. Your assertion that this or that group is wrong and must be stopped is useless if you do nothing.

What you do does not have to be Earth shaking or crowd stopping. Mother Teresa would never have had any influence if she had waited for the BIG moment, the acts that would create the most visibility. “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”

There is only one person you can change: yourself. Practice self-reflection.

There are lots of people you can help. Choose just ONE today. Open your eyes, unstop your ears, soften your heart. Get off your butt.
