Getting Older

It’s started a couple of months ago. A deluge of opportunities and information. So. Much. Information.

Yes, it’s true. I’ll be turning sixty-five this year and Medicare is in my future. And every company has a great option for me. What to choose? Which option is best? Whew!

The truth of the matter however is that the older I get the less fussed I get about things. Age has a way of clarifying and sharply focusing what battles I choose. That choice is tempered with doing what is possible. Expending my time and energy in spaces that encourage others, create joy, celebrate the gifts of God in my life.

It also is tempered by growth in my trust of God’s goodness, love, mercy, and justice. When you play the long game with God, realizing nothing is really in your control but only His, you are willing to wait, to not be in a hurry. The truth and reality of Romans 8:28 about God working all things for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose becomes front and center.

You see, life has a way of showing you exactly Who God is, if you just pay attention. Watch for the God Winks, the glimmers just out of the corner of your eye that show you He is present and He is in control.

Maybe it’s the chosen pace of aging…or maybe aging lets us know that slowing our pace allows us to see God in action.
