One hears about different types of prayer including prayers of intercession. Prayers of intercession generally occur when we ask God to intercede in a situation usually for someone else but also for us.
Recently, as I was asking for God’s intercession, I actually asked Him to interfere. And I was struck that perhaps that is more what I intend and prefer. Intercession seems rather civilized and passive. But interfere? That has tones of active meddling where perhaps it isn’t welcome. For some of the people and governments I am praying for that is exactly what God’s activity would be: interference.
But I also find God’s interference is sometimes exactly what is needed. Including in my own life.
Yes! Please, Lord. Interfere. In my thinking. Prejudices. Lethargy. Amen.
