Lenses

Like so many people and particularly people of, ahem, a certain age, I wear glasses. But just to read! Hellooooo vanity. Actually, seeing things in the distance is not one of my issues.

Up close however I need some help as the print on just about everything is either being shrunk down to teeny tiny or blurred. My lenses help me sort out what I’m looking at which if I’m trying to determine how much of a particular medicine to take is rather important. Or determine if I should take any at all.

We all use lenses of one sort or another even if not for our eyesight. We have the lens of past experience which we use to determine what we think is going on and how we might respond. We have the lens of family of origin which gives us a bit of a fun house mirror effect sometimes.

The trickiest part is to determine when we are using a lens that is distorting or not assisting us properly, and then to change it out with one that is more accurate.

Or perhaps to change out our worldly lens which tends to show things only as they relate to us and our wishes, for a lens from God, which can helps us recognize the goodness of God even when life is hard and maybe just sucks.

Life lenses from God let us see things around us from an eternal perspective. Sometimes that is really important to keep us from despair or going off down the wrong track. Sometimes, my God lenses need a bit of cleaning and refreshing because they can get spattered by the world.

What are you seeing?
