Prayer After A Long Winter

It’s been a long winter with death and illness and not much sanity whirling around in the chaos masquerading as the grown-ups. It’s not the first winter of which this is true, but somehow it seems more wearying. Maybe I’m just old. Hmm.

My sister reminded me of a similar winter many years ago when we wore younger women’s clothes. Our little hometown had been hit hard all winter long, and spring seemed much delayed. One of the old bachelors in town got up at church to read the prayers of the people. He captured then how I feel now:

“Lord, let Spring come.”
