In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus encourages us: “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
In a world where the religious systems and societal structures were full of laws and rules and demands, Jesus have hope to a weary people. His demands and rules came from a pure, humble and gentle heart. Walking with Him was – is – meant to bring rest for our souls.
When I find myself struggling and weighed down by what is going on in my life and/or in the world around me, I need to stop and examine where I am yoked. When I choose to be yoked with the Savior Jesus, I am not going along alone or with a burdensome, brutal master. That doesn’t mean that everything will be sunshine and rainbows and unicorns. It means I am not alone, I am not in charge, and I am loved.
Where are you yoked today? Because whether we realize it or not, we all are bound or yoked somewhere by our beliefs and thoughts and actions.
Choose to be yoked with the Savior Jesus. He promises an easy yoke and a light burden – because He is carrying most of the load.
