Bit Player

Although it can be viewed as rather an insignificant role, a bit player is actually important to any story. They don’t have the most lines and sometimes have no lines to speak. But they are important enough to be included. The playwright or author has deliberately included them to add something to the story.

When I think of myself in the context of history, or even within the context of my own time and the scope of humanity living today, it’s pretty humbling. I’m definitely a Bit Player. I’m not famous or well-known, I have no giant audience who follows my every word or social media post. I’ve not discovered or invented anything let alone anything worthwhile. I’m just…me. I’m a Bit Player.

But! I’m a Bit Player in God’s Story. I was deliberately and specifically created for this moment in time in this particular place with the people I’m surrounded by. I am, somehow, critical in God’s Story. It’s important that I participate and engage according to His will.

Yes, sometimes I go off script, even enter into some improvisation. But it doesn’t change the storyline of God’s Story. His storyline includes me generously and graciously but it doesn’t depend on me.

I’m awfully glad God cast me in this role.
