Yeast is one of those amazing things that we may not understand exactly how or why it works but we are glad it does. A comparatively small amount of yeast, worked through or spread through dough produces a heavenly smell and a delicious product. Mmmm!
In the Gospels, Jesus warns the disciples about “the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees”. He was talking about their teaching and how it often kept people from true worship because of the number of laws and regulations, and because of the authority and power structure they had constructed for themselves. Like yeast, their teaching spread throughout society causing soul harm and sometimes even physical harm.
Who are the Pharisees and Sadducees today? What yeast are they working though our society? Who is being kept not from the “right way” and is being polarized but is being kept from God and an understanding of His love and goodness?
