Passing

This weekend we were so blessed to be in the northern New Mexico mountains for the baptism of our youngest grandchild. The weather was lovely and cooperated even more by becoming rather overcast so her very fair skin was untouched during the outside ceremony.

She has four sets of grandparents all of whom were able to attend, including one by video. She was baptized in the front yard of the cabin of her Grandpa Bart and Gramma Char. She wore the christening gown her great-aunt Katie had worn at her baptism. Her grandmother-who-hasn’t-decided-what-her-grandma-name-is brought her family’s baby jewelry for her including a very tiny little cross. Her Grandpa Tim drove half a garden of home-grown tomatoes cross country for the brunch, while Grammi Jenny joined via video. She was baptized with water from Wyoming that her Nana (me) and Bobo (Dan) brought from the family creek.

She is the best of all of us, and each of us passed on to and shared with her on this day, parts of her heritage. It was lovely and special, and thanks to Rev. Lisa, holy.

There were other family members who attended and many more who wished they could have attended. There was rejoicing from coast to coast.

How else to celebrate and welcome a child of God no matter what their age, except with reminders of where they come from and where they belong. And Who they belong to and are loved by.

Always celebrate and welcome and pledge to guide and walk with the new children of God. Pass on to them what you have received from God and teach them why it is important.

Welcome JJ!
