Yesterday we celebrated the Fourth of July here in the USA. Fireworks, parades, picnics, rodeos, and a variety of other celebrations mark the success of the Revolutionary War in gaining independence and freedom from England.
Around these kind of holidays, one frequently hears that “freedom isn’t free”, that there were and are sacrifices made for others. What I can do and how I live was secured at the cost of others’ lives. We can live in appreciation and celebration honoring that sacrifice, or we can choose to focus on everything that is wrong and not how we’d like it.
This is also true in the spiritual realm. Our freedom from death and sin has been secured at the cost of Jesus’ earthly life. Again, we can live in appreciation and celebration honoring that sacrifice, or we can choose to focus on everything that is wrong and not how we’d like it. We can ignore our opportunity to live in freedom but that doesn’t change the willing sacrifice Jesus’ made.
Choose wisely.
