This winter we have had spectacular sunrises, at least on the days when grey has not been the color of the day. As I look out the patio doors towards the East, the rising, spreading, and fading away of vibrant orange, pink, red, and sometimes purple is fascinating.
Since we do not live on open prairie but in a city, the view of these sunrises is usually through something: tree branches, between buildings, and such. Still very lovely and sometimes kinda artsy.
It is sometimes easy for me to be distracted by my neighbor’s electrical line running through the best part of the sunrise. Trees are still part of nature but electrical lines or patio table umbrellas or even play sets are only set within nature. How can I really focus, or more importantly focus my camera on just the sunrise?
It is easy to lose sight of the Main Event, not unlike having a cat fight break out in front of Act Two of a Shakespeare in the Park production. The show goes on but which captures your attention?
I think we sometimes live our faith similarly. The Sonrise gets viewed through, in between as it were, other things which distract us. Whether life events, how we practice our faith or worse how someone else is practicing their faith, local politics, or any of a thousand things, it can be easy to forget the overwhelming beauty of God’s love, Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection, and the Spirit’s indwelling. But it is the foundational back drop giving light and light to everything else.
