Holding On Or Clinging To

Ah Autumn! Your myriad of colors hide the end of a season and, well quite frankly, death and dormancy. This time of year I sometimes see memes or quotes or posts highlighting how the leaves can teach us about letting go.

I wonder though are the leaves letting go or are the trees letting go? And yes I realize this is a bit of an esoteric question but it is the differences between holding on to something that you need to release or letting go of something so you can move on.

You see when the tree releases something it is clinging to, it doesn’t move. It stays right where it is but releases the leaves to move away from it. When a leaf is holding on to the tree and lets go, it moves away.

In this season of your life are you the tree or are you the leaves? Are you releasing what you’ve been clinging to or are you letting go and moving on? The difference is subtle but perhaps important.
