Agreement provides a way forward, whether in a conversation about going out to eat or painting a room bright red or Terms and Conditions for a software license or sending money electronically or really just a lot of situations. It is consent to proceed with an intended or even suggested action. Often it is legally binding as in the case with Terms and Conditions.
Frequently, we are not even aware that we have agreed to something. Either the suggestion was vague or not really a request. Sometimes our silence becomes agreement.
Sometimes we NEED to break an agreement especially when the agreement is harmful. This is the case for those internal conversations which condemn or shame or suggest we light fires inappropriately.
All of this is background for my current pondering which goes something like this. God does not need our agreement to cause events or a change of heart or really much of anything because, you know, He’s God. He does often gives us the opportunity.
Evil on the other hand requires agreement to proceed, I think. The forces of evil require agreement and participation, active or passive, from someone somewhere. When we are tempted, we always have the option to rebuke and refuse.
Now I’m not sure about this. As I said, this is something I’m pondering. I’m looking for the one refuting example, something that says evil has more power than we allow or agree.
But if this ponder is true, the implications are significant. As are the opportunities.
