Our family loves to play games, especially card games. Often, holding an ace is critical to winning. The one who controls an ace, holds power.
This week I was listening to a John Eldridge Wild at Heart podcast in which the conversation was about how we hold onto aces with God.
If You do x, God, then I’ll be happy or content or whatever. I’ll win at life.
That “x” can be so many very good things: a promotion, a spouse, children, children doing well in life, good health, and so forth. It can also be the removal or absence of bad or difficult things.
What we often fail to realize is that God’s work in our life does not always make sense, and we must find our joy in our relationship with Him, outside of the circumstances of our broken world. When we rely on this world to determine our life mindset, we will be disappointed and chaotic.
What’s your ace? What are you trying to leverage with God?
