Known

As we go through this bright-sad season of Lent, we are often called to reflect on what Jesus knew at the Last Supper, particularly what He knew about Judas. At this point Judas has already started down the road to betraying Jesus. There are many commentaries about the words Jesus spoke at the Last Supper regarding falling away, denying, and betraying.

Yet I suspect that Jesus knew Judas would betray Him long before the Last Supper. Scripture doesn’t tell us specifically, but it is reasonable to think Jesus knew Judas’ heart before He ever chose Judas as one of the Twelve. And yet He chose Judas anyway, to be part of the inner circle, the Twelve who lived with, ate with, and witnessed all Jesus did during the three years of His ministry.

Jesus also knows our hearts, all the ways we will deny Him, wander off down worldly paths, and yes, betray Him. And He chooses us anyway.

Wow. We are loved so much.
