One of my dear friends does personal training. She helps people stand straighter, walk better, increase their flexibility and endurance, and a variety of other physical strengthening and stretching. One of the focus areas is on core strength, those muscles through your abdomen and lower back that form a belt around your body. These muscles are critical for supporting the rest of the body.
In Ephesians 6 we read about the armor of God and the very first component is the Belt of Truth. Upon the Belt of Truth, the Body Armor or Breastplate of God’s Righteousness rests. The Belt of Truth is the core strength of God’s armor; without that core strength, we cannot support the rest of the armor. God’s truth shows us His unfailing love and faithfulness, His promises which are Yes and Amen. As we come to know more of God’s truth, to stretch ourselves in trust, and stand bolder and straighter, then our core strength, our Belt of Truth, gives us the ability to put on AND use the rest of His armor.
“Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” – Ephesians 6:13
