What Gets In

The beautiful frog above is a poison tree frog. Its bright colors warn other animals to not eat it – to just leave it alone.

We see these beauties often when we are in Costa Rica. This year however, I learned something new about them as I watched our guide pick one up to show us. The poison on their skin has to enter your blood stream to hurt you, so if you have a cut on your hand, however small, it’s a good idea to just admire them from afar. Or from your guide’s hand.

The poison of sin is also found in some very attractive packages, brightly colored and often tempting. All around us are things that if they enter us are lethal: lying, cheating, murder, there are all sorts of harms hanging out. Often we think we can skate close to them but not be harmed.

All it takes is a minuscule opening, a tiny cut.

Sin and poison share so much.
