Community has been a topic on this blog several times before. It will continue to be! Forewarned is forearmed. Grin. Communities have a lot of different shapes and sizes. There is an interesting community within, especially, private universities: legacy students. They are students who have a family member, parent, grandparent, etc., who also attended that institution.
This week I was reminded of different types of legacy communities, including those which are not at all obvious. I was especially reminded of the Community of Saints. I don’t mean the saints as observed by various faiths but rather the saints who have gone before us in the faith journey. Hebrews talks about those faithful in Scriptures: Abraham, Samson, Rahab, Jacob, and others who by faith lived lives of assurance of things hoped for and conviction of things not seen.
For those of us who have the privilege and the responsibility of having faithful around us, we are shown what walking with God looks like. I draw strength from the faithful walk and the wrestling with God of family members including members of my church family and others whose walk with God was and is visible and consistent.
The knowledge that I am not the first to suffer or to rejoice, is especially helpful in those times when I cannot see what God is up to, when trust in His goodness is all I have.
It is with a grateful heart and an observant eye that I recall their examples both strong and weak.
Father God, help me to be a legacy community member.
