Excitement. Delight. Joy.
When I video call with my grandchildren, they are as excited as I am to talk. Although, that is maybe not entirely accurate. They are excited for me to see them doing things. Usually that manifests itself in running as fast as they can wherever they are including inside their home. And talking loudly and fast and over the top of each other to tell me about their day. They are delighted because we live far apart from each other and don’t see each other on a daily basis. And there is a special joy between grandchildren and their grandparents.
In Matthew, Jesus says that unless we become as a little child, we will never enter the kingdom of heaven. There are many ways to think about this, from being humble to taking care of the powerless. Perhaps another way to think of this guidance is to recover the excitement and delight and joy which children feel and express in the presence of those they love and long to see.
Everyday all around us, God is present. Are we excited? Do we delight in being with Him? Are we filled with joy? Are we running around the house spilling over with sharing our day with our Father?
