Restoration

There they were in the window of the repair shop we pass on our way to church. Silent sentries waiting to be called back to duty. I love the curve of these basses, and the clear “usage” marks. Looking out over the cars and people with donuts from the donut shop two doors down, they wait.

Obviously at some point they were removed from action to be repaired and restored so they could be of service again, so they can do what they were created to do. Maybe it was just a broken string, or perhaps it was as serious as a snapped neck. Even the little affects the whole. But now? Put me back in coach. I’m restored.

Being taken offline, out of the battle for restoration and rest and realignment is not a negative. It is necessary. Yet too often we ignore our bodies and our souls when they cry “Enough!”. We believe that somehow that is weakness or that we will never return to things we love and feel led to be engaged.

Sadly, we can run ourselves into the ground so badly that we do end up being permanently sidelined. Hopefully, we have friends and family who help us recognize the lie about rest equalling weakness, the lie that if I just ignore this it will go away, the lie that I can tough this out.

May we welcome the rest and the restoration, ask God to defeat the self-sufficient lie, so we can bring strength and focus to the battle yet again. So we can fight the good fight, engage in what we are called for.
