What’s That?

At first glance, what do you see in this picture? If you required a double take to make sure that is not a snake on the sidewalk, then chances are you grew up outside of a city. Which I did.

Or you just really, really don’t like snakes. Which I don’t.

Sometimes you read about sticks turning into snakes. Here is poor old Moses holding a stick (well it was called a staff but really it was just a big stick). God turns it into a snake! And I’m guessing by Moses’ reaction it was something like a viper and not a water snake. Then God tells Moses to grab it by the tail (yet another clue it wasn’t a water snake). Talk about a deep breath. To me, this is one of Moses’ finest moments of obedience.

Stick snakes abound in very many venues. Sometimes they look like a stereotype, i.e., snakes look like sticks, sticks look like snakes. We have to pause long enough to actually make an accurate determination and assessment. Snap judgements are easy but often wrong.

(Fortunately, it was a stick.)

  1. There used to be a lot of fan belts lying around too.
