Mutation Update

Recently I shared the empirical evidence I have gathered about the mutational jump of COVID from humans to dryers (Mutation). I’d like to update you and answer additional questions which in all honesty, were never asked by anyone.

First, I have absolutely no idea how COVID got in the same room as our dryer. None. No one with COVID has been inside of our house in the last ten zillion months since March. Therein lies a new and rather disturbing observation about the contagion. Apparently this virus has its own mobility that heretofore has been undetected. So far, in true viral fashion, it is known to spread by close, sustained contact involving breathing, coughing, or sneezing on someone, and one can assume, barfing on someone might also propel virus molecules.

Now unless someone is sneaking in our backyard and sneezing or coughing down the dryer vent, the normal mechanisms of transmission have been circumvented. I believe we would have noticed if someone had barfed into our dryer vent.

So, it can only be that the new human/dryer infection transmission occurred some other way. I’ll keep you posted on what I observe or just make up.

Second, it is now observed to be transmitted within closets! So clothing which is generally dry cleaned, and heaven knows nothing has needed dry cleaning in quite some time, has also apparently been infected. Mutation has now enabled clothing to clothing transmission – at least within closets. Clothing items that haven’t been out for a walk since February are exhibiting the same decrease in cloth molecules as regularly aired clothing. This does support the close proximity transmission principle of regular viruses.

Third, no, it doesn’t appear to infect socks or shoes. Perhaps something about foot odor is either preventing infection or quickly destroying the virus. Now this is something to get a honking big grant to investigate! IF, and I caution IF, foot odor is actually destructive to the virus in the same way it negates the olfactory mechanisms in teenage boys when confronted with their sneakers, we will have this defeated just as fast as we can distribute the contents of locker room lost and found bins.

Until we get more empirical data or with any luck some actual science-y research-y stuff verified, please continue to be cautious. I’ll keep you updated.
