There are quite a few places where reviews are written about places one has stayed, whether a hotel, an AirBNB, or a VRBO rental. As I read them looking at various options for vacation or a weekend away or a stop on a journey, I often see remarks about the wonderful “little touches” that made the visitor feel welcome and cared about. Things like lavender bars of soap, lacy curtains, fluffy pillows, or a locally sourced snack.
This morning I noticed the “little touches” God placed around my backyard. A beautiful, iridescent hummingbird whirred up to the hibiscus leaves for a drink of water. The morning sun shone through the space around the citronella plant illuminating and accenting the “green fur” of the plant. There were gossamer spider threads connecting memory points on the patio, a generally unseen attempt to hold in place the fleeting. The more I looked, the more I noticed.
Open my eyes dear Lord.
