Care

Having grown up on a sheep ranch, I know sheep are the silliest, most easily spooked animals on the planet. Butterflies can startle them. And when one starts running, they all run. This is where the phrase “herd mentality” is best illustrated.

We are the flock under Jesus’ care. There are many references to sheep and the Good Shepherd throughout Jesus’ teachings. He calms us when we are frightened. He makes sure we are cared for with food, water, and rest. He loves us even though we can be silly and forget Who is in charge – that we can rest. He removes the bears and lions and thieves from our lives, even when we would like to run after them. He gathers us, protects us, provides for us, guides us, and cares for and about us.

What joy!
