The Unexpected. That pretty much sums up the last several months of dealing with the impact, fallout, devastation, grief, solitude, every other emotion, of society’s reaction to the COVID 19. We’ve relearned basic hygiene. We’ve gotten to just stay home and be with ourselves or a very small group of others. We’ve been forced to be thoughtful of others. We’ve been “allowed” to practice delayed gratification.
I’ve learned about the Sagas of Iceland, thanks to an online education site. I’ve figured out how to creatively celebrate grandchildren’s birthdays when I can’t be there in person. I’m learning to cook again or rather restarting. Oh I’ve had lots of time to engage with my inner self. She’s kinda grumpy to be honest.
Often, in Scripture, God tells His people to watch and see the amazing thing He’s doing. The Unexpected thing He is doing – to benefit, amaze, delight His people.
If I’m honest, operating at a “noticing” pace has not been one of the gifts I’ve much exercised. In this time of uncertainty, quandary, and emotional preying, we are also given the opportunity to slow down, open our eyes, unstop our ears, and soften our hearts. The flowers bloom, the bees buzz, the eggs hatch, the wind caresses and sometimes blusters. And we, we are slowed enough to notice. If we will.
