Having believed, you are marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of His glory. – Ephesians 1:13b-14
We love to travel. We love to plan trips almost as much as we love to take them. One of the things we almost always do is make reservations at places we want to stay or for things we want to do. Just showing up and hoping there is room isn’t the best idea. When we make a reservation, we generally also are required to make a deposit guaranteeing that we will be there. Once we arrive, we pay the balance of what the room or activity costs in full.
God turns the travel tables around! He gives us the “deposit” of the Holy Spirit guaranteeing we have a reservation, a place with Him. The Holy Spirit marks us as God’s children, His heirs. We have received in part – then we will receive in whole. We have a taste now of the joy of being with God; there is more, so much more, we will receive when we are Home!
Excellent metaphor!
