Who’s Filling Up Your Cup?

Some years ago while traveling, our family stopped in Rapid City, South Dakota at a coffee shop cleverly called Alternative Fuel. You could purchase souvenir mugs which, along with their usual info, were inscribed “Who’s Filling Up Your Cup?”. Their mission was to be a dry refuge in an area swimming with alcohol choices.

Sadly, that cup walked out of our house awhile ago never to be returned. One of my readings today reminded me of the inscription.

Be to Me as a reservoir where I can store up My reserve of strength and power and blessing, and so make it readily available to the thirsty…Take from Me largely, that ye be never holding an empty cup when the thirsty ask of thee a drink, and be never lacking when the sick ask for bread. For if he have but a little, I will multiply it; but if he have not any, ye shall be ashamed. – Frances J. Roberts in Come Away My Beloved

When we allow God to fill us with His word, His Love, His Spirit, then we are never holding an empty cup. We will be able to pour into others in positive, restoring ways.

When we are filled with the world or when we are empty from lack of self-care, we have nothing worth-while to send out to others.

Who’s filling up your cup?
