Leftovers

This is a picture of leftover joy.

I know it looks like a picture of a smudgey mirror. But it is much more than that.

You see this past week our two youngest grandchildren visited. Bryce, the oldest of the youngest, was fascinated by the mirrored closet doors in our home. His home does not really have kid length mirrors. He was fascinated and delighted and pleased to watch himself jumping and running and stopping fast in some kind of who knows what pose. It gave him great joy to see himself. (The higher up leftover joy is from his sister, Marina.)

While it looks like he left macaroni and cheese, or maybe oatmeal on the mirrors, it is really the leftover joy of seeing himself. Young children are not critical of themselves; that is a learned behavior. What he sees and takes great joy from is a reflection of what God created.

All too often we look in the mirror, and rather than seeing and taking great joy in what God created, we see wrinkles, too many pounds, grey hair, imperfections. There is no joy, let alone leftover joy.

May all your leftovers be joyous.
