Where I Live

So I’ll stop living off of how I feel/And start standing on Your truth revealed – Casting Crowns, “All You’ve Ever Wanted”

Upon reflection, and quite frankly some unwanted conviction, I realize that often I live from how I feel rather than the power and strength of God’s truth revealed in Jesus Christ. The most driving and dictating feeling? Fear.

Even though I have read Paul’s words to Timothy proclaiming “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (II Timothy 1:7), and read them many times, I frequently do not behave as if I believe God sent ME that Spirit. I behave as if He sent me the spirit of hiding behind and from anger, the spirit of prison cell safety, the spirit of hermitage.

The rub here is that if in fact I accept and live in God’s truth revealed, I have to give up control, safety, comfort – not that I won’t ever have those things but they cannot be what I seek. Whatever comes is a by-product not the end game.

The end game is much more important.
