Every day we go out to hold the line. To draw the point of no return, the Rubicon, in the sand, and say “no further”. Sometimes the line is to limit ourselves – to hold ourselves to that space where we walk with God, not the world. Sometimes the line is to turn back the battle at the gates, to hedge out the forces of evil.
Some days the line gets blurry. Some days we ignore it. Some days it is breached.
But courage says “try again”.
You will fail; some days you will come home ON your shield. But other days you will come home WITH it. Both are declared victory because the shield was not just hanging on the wall, a reminder of what could be.
Heed God’s call. The riders are on the hills.
