Refrigerator Reflections #3

6BDEAC27-9E63-443E-8581-3EB4F8E0F019We have friends who “snowbird” in Tucson, Arizona each winter, much to our puzzlement. Tucson has never seemed like an attractive place – too “desert-y”. Several years ago, however, we were invited to attend our nephew C.’s wedding in Tucson – in June no less.

Yes, it was hot. Yes, the grass at the wedding venue had to be painted a lovely green. And yes, Tucson is about as “desert-y” a place as I imagined.

But it was also lovely. We were there at a time of year when the cacti were blooming. We visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum which was very informative and interesting. There were lots of cactus displays and most were blooming. The variety and beauty was astounding. Who knew? Certainly not me.

Bonus? The Saguaro National Park is there so we got to check another National Park off our list. I’ve never seen so many saguaros marching across the landscape.

John the Baptist and Jesus both retreated to the desert for renewal and solitude. And perhaps awe and surprise.
