So, just let me warn you that talking about spiritual warfare makes a LOT of people very uncomfortable, especially in the Western church. Even many pastors shy away from confronting evil directly and passionately. References to being under spiritual attack get filed under the “needs to see their primary physician” category.
Now to be sure not everything bad or negative that happens is a spiritual attack. And spiritual attacks can also come in the good or positive – we are told that:
And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. – II Corinthians 11:14-15
So good and positive things can also keep us from the things of God, perhaps even more effectively than outright attack. Outright attack is what it seems to be: attack. We recognize it more easily. Insidious attack is hard to recognize, because if you are like me,
I’m often not prepared or operating under the covering of God that would allow me to see what is actually going on.
In Ephesians, Paul tells us to put on the full armor of God.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. – Ephesians 6:11
Note it does not say to put on the flannel jammies of God.
Armor is required for battle. Preparation is essential – every single day. Putting on the full armor of God every day should be part of our routine!
