More Chicken Tales

Warning: this post is a departure from my usual style of moral of the story or pondering posts. Just in case you are looking for some nugget to transform your life, it won’t be found here today.

For those of you who are regular readers of my randomness, you’ll recall from several weeks ago that our neighbors have chickens. Three chickens. That’s the first piece of information you need to have.

The second piece of information you need for this story to make you giggle, is that a week or so ago, we had hardwood floors put in our master bedroom, replacing some rather old and well-used carpet. There were several workers here over the course of about a week as they were also redoing the kitchen hardwoods.

Context set.

So last weekend, my husband and I were headed to the car which resides in the drive-way when not in use. I understand that there are people who use their garages for parking their cars. Why I’m not sure but suffice it to say we are not that wasteful of perfectly good space.

A father and his two young daughters were walking their dog past our house. The dad calls out and asks if we have chickens. “No, they belong to the neighbors,” Dan replied gesturing towards, logically, the neighbor’s house.

“Oh,” responds the father, “I saw some workers here and I wasn’t sure if the chickens belonged to you or if the workers brought them.”

Well, yes of course.  Makes perfect sense to me.  But we had been pretty specific about our no bringing chickens while you are putting in hardwood floors policy. I mean, doesn’t everyone put that limitation in place?!?

I’m still chuckling.
