It has been a long, difficult news week. Again. So much chaos and death. So much anger and rhetoric. What’s a Christian to do?
I am particularly struggling today with the social media posts and shares and copy this things I see about Muslims and Islam. I am particularly saddened and a bit ashamed of the posts claiming to know what the Koran says about war and killing infidels. I know that these folks have not ever read the Koran and most of them don’t actually know any Muslims personally.
Let’s not forget as Christians that the Bible has some pretty brutal directives especially when taken out of context. In fact, by taking sentences out of context, I can prove to you that the Bible says there is no God. Psalm 14:1 says:
The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God
But more importantly, as a Christian, I refuse to give in to the fear-mongering that these posts represent. The God I follow and believe is big enough to take care of me and the world He created.

When we are distracted from our own journey, and give in to fear, we deny God’s power in our lives. We give a foot hold to all kinds of nonsense.
And if these posts are right? I choose to believe that God is in control and that He has this. I choose not to fear the faceless and nameless that are indicted by these posts and claims. Rather I choose, as Paul told us in Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Everyone.
