There is more. There has to be.
My husband and I were talking about the latest mass shooting. The latest senselessness. The “no answers” – because if there were answers then maybe there would be a way to eliminate or at least decrease this ongoing slaughter.
I think the key here is “answers” – plural.
We talked about guns and access. But that’s not the whole problem or answer. It certainly is a presenting problem. But it isn’t the underlying problem. Which doesn’t mean it should not be addressed.
We talked about media – in a variety of different contexts. Media as the grantors of fifteen-minutes of fame. “Gonna get my picture on the cover of the Rolling Stone” – or the New York Times or sprawled across every news outlet of every form.
We also talked about the near absence of female perpetrators (there are some) and is there a connection to violent video games where the only two emotions are anger and conquest. The lack of sorrow and grieving – there is no crying in video games – coupled with the tally required to win has to have some impact.
My husband and I disagree on this topic but I sometimes wonder if there are soul-less beings. Certainly there are those who have denied their soul. Which from my view is to deny your very self since I believe we are souls having a human experience not humans with souls. Primacy being the differentiation here.
The fundamental and spreading disregard for and denial of human worth and dignity is frightening. And overwhelming.
There has to be more than business as usual. Lord Jesus, our nation and world and hometowns and hearts need you. We need restoration to wholeness.
My heart cries. Again.
