I oversee a service organization within a university. Our staff are frequently out in our community on service calls, and because we are a fairly open community we require our front line folks wear a lanyard with their ID and/or a shirt which has our logo. We require this so that they are readily identifiable as our staff and so people know they are authorized to perform the service we supply.
We also ask our staff to be careful with their lanyards and with their shirts. When they get rid of either, we ask that they not give them away but rather destroy them. The reason why we ask this is because the actions of someone wearing (especially) those shirts reflects on our organization.
The identification is very plain and very visible to anyone with whom they interact. And their interactions are a reflection not only on our organization but on me as the leader of that organization.
So here’s the reflection piece. What are the visible signs that I belong to God? That I am His child? That I answer to Him?
And second: do my actions and words reflect positively on my community and on God? Would either be embarrassed by me?
Yikes.
Like but gosh that’s hard!
