Ask…

I often hesitate to ask because of all the voices about seeing God as a candy store. But Jesus’ word are NOT “ask just a little bit”, or “ask only after you have done this”, or “ask in just exactly this fashion”.

Then He goes on to talk about parents and children, and how much bigger and more generous our God is than we who give good things to our children even though we are imperfect at best and evil at worst.

So while God sometimes says “no”, it is always a qualified “no”, as in “no that is not at all good for you”, or “no, I have something much better” or the hardest one of all, “no, there is a lesson going on”.  And while I may not see His answer as better, I have to trust that the time will come when I will see and understand that in fact it was and is and continues to be much better.

So today, I will pour out my heart to Him knowing and trusting that I am NOT in control and I do not need to be. I can ASK and not worry that I am asking for the wrong thing or in the wrong way or at the wrong time. I can just ask and rest in the knowledge that His answer will be perfect, even if I don’t quite understand.

  1. Oh my friend, what a great & timely reminder.
The energy I waste on people & circumstances I want to change–all for “their” good of course!!
